Cecil was killed in action on February 12th, 1951, but was not confirmed dead on this date. A March 9th newspaper article only reports Cecil as missing. It was not until April 7th of that year that Cecil was confirmed dead. It took even longer for Cecil’s body to return home. His body returned to US soil on October 7th, 1951. Cecil’s corpse journeyed aboard the Hoosier State Victory, docking in San Francisco.
Sergeant Cecil Greenwall was buried on Tuesday October 9th, 1951, 8 months after his death. The funeral took place at 4:30 pm in the Dugan Hennessy Chapel, presided over by Reverend Wendell R. Newell of Covenant Presbyterian Church in Bisbee. Cecil was laid to rest in Evergreen Cemetary with full military honors provided by American Legion Post No. 16, who also supplied pallbearers.
